50-percent VOR reduction

FAA  proposes plan for navigation in NextGen environment  50-percent VOR reduction planned by 2020 . By 2020, all IFR traffic will rely on satellites for navigation under an FAA proposal now open to comment.  More

 

4G Broadband May Jam GPS

New Network is Designed to Transmit on Frequency Adjacent to the GPS Band. A company called LightSquared is building a 4G broadband Internet network in the US that will use 40,000 ground-based transmitters and a satellite to make a state-of-the-art open wireless broadband network. More

This rally was in support of Collective Bargaining Rights and in outrage over cuts to Mental Health and other medical necessities.  Many disabled people were there along with teachers and fire fighters.

FAA approves iPads for pilots' electronic charts

The Federal Aviation Administration is allowing a private-jet company to use iPads as an approved alternative to paper charts. 

 

(WIRED) -- From the earliest days of aviation, pilots have relied upon paper maps to help find their way. Even in an era of GPS and advanced avionics, you still see pilots lugging around 20 pounds or more of charts.  More

 

JLT Meets in Miami

 

In late January, the Technical Operations- PASS Joint Leadership Team (JLT) met in Miami to continue their work on increasing

collaboration throughout the organization.

 

The team kicked off the busy three days with a site visit and all-hands meeting at the Miami Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT).

The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS) is the union that represents more than 11,000 employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DoD). Our members are dedicated to certifying the safety and the efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS); maintaining and supporting this nation’s air traffic control system with the utmost professionalism; and ensuring the integrity, the reliability, and the safety of the commercial and general aviation industries. Who Are PASS Members?

Our members include FAA and DoD systems specialists, aviation safety inspectors and safety support staff; with flight inspection pilots and mission specialists, procedures development specialists, and aircraft maintenance and staff support from the FAA’s Aviation System Standards; and manufacturing inspectors and safety support staff from Manufacturing Inspection District Offices.
